Owned and operated by James Williams who is a Florida native, veteran of the U.S. Army and an avid fisherman. James was born and raised in Fort Pierce, Florida where he grew up fishing for snook at night from the docks and bridges to going offshore for Mahi, tuna and billfish with his best friend Capt. Carlos Rodriguez. After graduating high school, James went straight into the Army serving from 1993 to 2001 in both active and reserve units. Upon arrival home, he moved to Broward County and got a job working as a paramedic on one the local Fire Depts and while living in Broward, James started his own back country/flats guide service.

As well as guiding, James also fished many tournaments and during this time, he fished many production rods that he felt were not exactly the right fit for him and how he fishes. He decided to start studying what goes into the rod building process from construction of the blanks all the way up to a finished rod and how those processes affect the action, power, and the feel of the rod. It was at this time he started building his own and using them when he guided. During this time his clients, that he would take out on trips, would ask who made the rods they were fishing because they wanted one and James replied that he built them and that's when he realized he could build rods the way other anglers wanted them and that was when Rock Solid Custom Rods was born.
